Edition: From L’Estampe Moderne vol. 2, no. 15, July 1898; printed by L’Imprimerie Champenois, distributed by Masson & Pizza. This illustration is accompanied by an excerpt from Les Trophées (1893), the 118 sonnets by the Cuban-born French poet José-Maria de Heredia. L’Estampe Moderne was published from 1897 to 1899 in two volumes comprising 103 prints (the DAC also has one set of four duplicates and three premium prints); about 34–37 are not original but are reproductions or collotypes. Most prints in the DAC set are stored unmatted in the original folios; some have been matted and are boxed as indicated.
